FIANZ Annual General Meeting 2005
The FIANZ AGM 2005 was held on 21-22 May 2005 at the new office located at 7-11 Queen's Drive, Lyall Bay, Wellington. These offices are located in the ground floor of the Wellington Islamic Centre. That FIANZ and the Wellington Islamic Centre are in the same building is a bonus for us. It reflects the religious nature of our organization. Additionally, the Centre is used for the daily prayers by staff and visitors to the office.
As this was the inaugural AGM to be held in our new office, it was preceded by the official opening of the FIANZ Office. The Guest of Honour at this reception was Hon Paul Swain, Minister for Immigration. Other guests invited at his occasion included Dr Ashraf Choudhary, Member of Parliament, Mr Joris de Bres, Commissioner for Race Relations, HE Sheikh Hassani, Ambassador of Iran, Mr Mokhtar, Counsellor of High Commission of Malaysia and Mr Ali M Sungkar, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Indonesia.
The AGM 2005 got underway soon after the reception. The meeting was held over a 2 day period which was conducted in an amicable and brotherly manner. It was a fruitful meeting to all who attended it. Besides the seven Regional Associations across New Zealand, the Islamic Women's Council of New Zealand also attended the meeting. The IWCNZ were represented by Sisters Anjum Rahman from Hamilton and Rehanna Ali from Wellington.
At the Annual General Meeting of FIANZ held in Wellington from 21-22 May 2005 the following Executive Appointments were confirmed for the period 2005-2007:
