Petition re Prostitution
This petition, aimed at collecting sufficient signatures to see a question concerning the repeal of the Prostitution Act 2003 (which sneaked through Parliament on one abstention!) go on the ballot paper for the 2005 election, is now in its final days.
All petition forms need to be returned and received no later than Friday 29 October which is exactly three weeks from today.
There has been a last minute flurry of interest. The Rodney District Council has forwarded the petition form to the over 45,000 households in the district, with another 10,000 copies circulating outside the district. A number of church groups have set some spectacular targets to collect signatures. One church for example has a target of 20,000! Radio Rhema will be running a "petitionthon" starting next week.
We have already collected more than 70,000 signatures but need around 300,000 before the question will go on next year's election ballot paper. This is not an impossible goal since, as the old saying goes, many hands make light work. If around 20,000 people collect around 10 signatures each for example, we will have reached that goal. Anything that you are able to do will make a very real difference.
Also, could you please check to ensure that any completed or partly completed petition forms have been posted off. It would be a tragedy to miss the cut off date only to find partly completed forms subsequently sitting in the back of churches or similar.
I know it is a big ask but together we can do it!
