Harmony Awards?
The Harmony Awards have been established as part of Islam Awareness Week in 2008 to recognise the contributions of New Zealanders to improving understanding and relationships between Muslims and the wider community.
Objectives
To recognise contributions to improving understanding and relationships between Muslims and the wider community by: Non-Muslim New Zealand residents.

Nominations

Any individual, organisation, society or club from the Muslim community may make nominations by completing the nomination form.

In the ordinary course of events the person or group will have carried out predominantly voluntary work. However, the payment of an honorarium or such similar monetary recompense to an office holder will not necessarily disqualify the person from receiving an award.

Information given concerning nominees should be supplied by the individual or group making the nomination. This information should include sufficient detail in respect of the merits of nominees so that the Selection Panel appointed to decide the recipients of the Harmony Awards may exercise its function with a full cognisance of the qualifications of the nominees. It is emphasised that details sought are not merely those of offices held. Information should be supplied detailing actual work or activities carried out. If insufficient information is supplied, the nomination may not be considered.

Nominations which are not successful in any one year may be resubmitted for consideration in subsequent year.

Where a person dies within twelve months prior to the closing date of nominations for a Harmony Award, that person is eligible for nomination for a Harmony Award, to be awarded posthumously.

If the nomination is successful, the proposed recipient will be contacted by the Selection Panel to ascertain their consent prior to any public notification.

The Selection Panel for Harmony Awards is to comprise of the members of the Islam Awareness Week Governance

All matters related to the Harmony Awards are at the discretion of the Selection Panel and no correspondence will be entered into.
