Assalamalaikum,
The Islamic Women's Council of New Zealand is pleased to announce that their annual Conference will be held in Hamilton from 21 to 23 April 2006. The theme of this year's Conference is "Social Action." The Conference is open to all Muslim sisters throughout New Zealand and its aims are to:
-
Provide a forum for the Islamic Women's Council
-
Facilitate the discussion of issues relating to Muslim women in NZ
-
Promote the physical, spiritual and intellectual values of Islam
-
Create an enjoyable opportunity for Muslim women to meet and know one another.
For the first time this year, there will be one session open to the public, from 10.30am to 12.00pm on Saturday 22 April. Please feel free to invite any members of the wider community to attend during this time.
Qur'an Competition
The Women's Conference will also include a Qur'an Recitation competition. Participants may recite any passage of their own selection from the Holy Qur'an. The competition has more to do with sharing than competing, so we hope that people will not be shy to enter. Participants should put their names forward to their Local Coordinator.
Items for Sale
The Conference will also provide a venue for Muslim entrepreneurs. Anyone wishing to sell items at the Conference is invited to register with the Conference Coordinators. Items could include scarves, coats, dresses, prayer mats, tasbih, jewellery, foodstuffs, books, educational resources, gifts, etc.
Conference Logistics
This year the Conference will be held at Hamilton Girl's High School, Ward Street, Hamilton. The Conference, meals and accommodation are all provided free of charge and are open to all sisters. As spaces are limited and for the purposes of catering, sisters wishing to attend will need to register with their Local Coordinator (see printable registration form). Sisters will be responsible for arranging their own travel to and from Hamilton.
Marae-style sleeping arrangements will be provided at the school and sisters should bring their own pillow, single sheet and sleeping bag or blankets (it may get very cold at night).
If you should have any enquiries relating to the Conference please feel free to contact the Conference Coordinators or your Local Coordinator. To download a printable registration form please click here. On behalf of the Islamic Women's Council we look forward to seeing you there.
